Wondering where to find me?
Founded in 1830 by entrepreneur Joseph Bloor, the Village of Yorkville began as a residential suburb. The neighbourhood’s charming streets were comprised of Victorian homes dressed with quaint gardens. The village survived into the 20th century when it was annexed by the City of Toronto. By the 1960’s, Yorkville emerged as the epicenter of Toronto’s bohemian cultural scene. I missed my chance to hobnob with some of Canada’s celebrated musicians – Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Gordon Lightfoot. We could have been friends! I might have joined an underground literature circle with the likes of Margaret Atwood, Gwendolyn MacEwen, and Dennis Lee (I did meet Margaret years later at the 26th Annual Writer’s Trust Gala – she’s a legend!). In the following years Yorkville’s flair for fashion began to flourish with the addition of luxury Bloor Street retail businesses such as Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen. The floodgates opened to welcome chic international designer boutiques, art galleries, salons and restaurants – shaping the Yorkville we recognize today. The condominium market soared to keep up with the residential demand. Who wouldn’t want to live in a neighbourhood with a flawless blend of historic charm and modern seduction? It’s exactly where I want to live. If you want to be my neighbour I’d love to hear from you.
Yorkville is my home. If you’re looking for me – this is where you’ll find me.
