In 1913 the Jewish immigrant population in Toronto was burgeoning. Yet, unfortunately, not a hospital in the city would give Jewish doctors a place to practice. Enter Mrs. Cohn, Miller, Spiegel and Adler – four fierce ladies who started canvassing the neighbourhood to raise the money to start their own hospital.  By 1922, after 9 years, they had raised $12,000, enough to buy a building at 100 Yorkville – Mount Sinai Hospital’s first home.  In 2009 when Invar Building Corporation developed 80 & 100 Yorkville they incorporated 100 Yorkville into the historic façade of the original Mount Sinai Hospital.

The luxury development consists of two buildings housing 93 suites and an additional 6 Georgian-style townhomes.  The design team features Hariri Pontarini, Young & Wright / IBI Group Architects and Gluckstein Design. All suites feature balconies, gas fireplaces, eight foot high windows, ten foot high ceilings, and include at least one parking space, one locker and access to premium amenities.  Suites range from a 732 square foot one bedroom to a 5600 square foot full floor penthouse with over 2600 square feet of outdoor living space and a $12.9 million price tag.  I’ve been up there and, as you can imagine, it is impressive. The 360 degree view is worth every penny – but you’ll need a lot of them (Hey Canada, should we be saying worth every nickel now?).
